As the newly elected President of the Canadian Australian Club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the past Committee for their dedication and commitment to grow this great historic Club. Special kudos to Kathleen Prokopovich who has made extraordinary efforts to organise and attend most of the functions, notwithstanding she lives in Wollongong!
I am honoured to be elected President and I am very excited to take on this responsibility. Although my aim is to stay within the objectives of the constitution and foster growth within the strong community which already exists, you will see some changes start to take place as we have “new blood” in the Committee. With Nalini Downie being elected Event Coordinator and Zachary Kominar elected Membership Officer, I envisage new ideas will quickly come to the forefront whilst being able to utilise Kathleen as Volunteer Coordinator and Kim Preminger as Treasurer to keep us focused on the past vision of the CAC.
I have been told there are approximately 75,000 Canadians in Australia. With this figure, I am certain there are a significant sum of Canadians situated in Sydney who have been craving the idea of talking about the cold weather, the ice wine, the ice hockey (hockey), the snow shoveling, the humid summers, the amazing summer festivals, the outdoor camping (without snakes and spiders), the canoeing, the fresh water swimming (without the sharks and box jellyfish), the poutine and Tim Hortons, nevertheless, many of them do not know of our existence!
In light of the above, we are going to reach out to other ex-pat groups and organisations, universities and Canadian companies in Australia so we can hunt down those Canadians so our monthly mixers are even more dynamic and fun. To this end, some immediate changes will be the increased usage of social media outlets to strengthen our numbers. This will also enable us to possibly hold intramural events with the Americans, as this always brings out the true Canadian in all of us.

With the increased membership, the CAC will be able to have more interesting events such as Race Days, BBQ boating and dinners and drinks at very unique locations. If you know any Canadians out there who have not signed up as a member to the CAC, I kindly ask that you spread the word as the CAC will be the talk of the town in the very near future.
I look forward to meeting all of you at our first event at 6:00pm, 6 December 2013 at the Paragon Hotel in Circular Quay and please register for same! Should you have any questions in relation to the above matter, please contact me on 0422 730 999 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
