Spring has Sprung....

Happy Spring & Father’s Day Everyone!

To ring in the new season, I found this very inspiring quote from a well read Canadian…

In the spring, at the end of the day,

you should smell like dirt.

Margaret Atwood

Aussie spring also starts off the last week of campaigning for the Federal Election. The past few weeks I have taken a keen interest to find out more about the Australian voting system, mostly because I accidently “donkey voted” in our local election a few year back (my instinct to put an “X” in the box overwrote everything else).

So even if you aren’t voting next Saturday, I have come across a satirical explanation of where your vote goes in preferential voting:

Dennis The Election Koala explains to Ken the Voting Dingo about preferential voting.

Enough election speak though, here are some updates for the Club:

August saw the Club try out The Paragon Hotel for our Monthly Mixer, and with 15+ in attendance, our mixer came alive again! We had a great mix of people, some great music, and overall, a great social experience. Thank you to everyone who came!

The Possible Worlds American & Canadian Film Festival also showcased this month and unfortunately, compared to previous years, there was only a minimal amount of interest from members to attend the movies. The Opening Night film was fantastic though, and there is still an opportunity to see it in select Sydney cinemas this month.

In September the CAC will be meeting again at the Paragon Hotel, but this time to trial a Monthly Mixer Dinner. We would love to see more members make use of this meet up, as this is where you can meet new people before our big, annual events (hint, hint). This month also has a Big Bang Theory themed picnic and an educational walk, which is for free for budding scientists ages 8 and up!

Lastly, there are two great FYI events advertised in this newsletter, one for a Digital Photograph Exhibition (featuring some of Canada’s stunning landscapes) and a musical showcase in Coogee featuring some great indie Canadian artists.

Keep reading for more info, and the Committee wishes all our Fatherly members a very Happy Father’s Day!
