This year has started with a bang, with TWO successful events occurring!
Please keep reading to find out how the CAC celebrated January....

Ben Caplan & the Casual Smokers – Sydney Festival January 8th

On January 8th, twelve dedicated Canadians & Canadian-ized Australian’s met at the sold out Speigletent in Hyde Park, to welcome Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers to Opening Night at the Sydney Festival.

As many of us have never been to the Speigletent before, we were amazed with how the ambiance transported us out of Hyde Park, and into a cozy, intimate setting to listen to the bluesy, gravely voice of Ben Caplan. Ben has a natural charm as he engages the audience in between songs, and is able to draw you in to release your inner “sigh’s” and inner “screams”.

Needless to say, all the CAC member’s who went raved about the performance! Although many of us had to scatter afterwards, quite a few stayed in line by the merch tent to pick up some cd’s, and even get a photo or two! (If they had working phone batteries, of course…;p)

In closing, Kathleen would like to thank everyone who attended! it was great to see everyone’s support for a virtually unknown Canadian artist, and we hope to organise other events like this when Canadian muscians come to town. If you know of anything happening, please keep us informed!

On the 19 January 2014, the CAC enjoyed an afternoon in the sun sea kayaking. We paddled around middle harbour, soaked in the sun and then were treated to salmon, cream cheese, baguettes and roasted chicken. All and all, it was a great event and we intend to do it again in the near future. Thank you to all who joined us!

A big thank you to our new Event's Coordinator, Nalani for organising her first event with the club!
