Who is the most influential Canadian Expat in the world?
     You tell us.

There are an estimated 2.8 million Canadians living and working around the globe.  This group of individuals is highly educated, linguistically adept and culturally articulate.  Canadian Expats are also successful networkers and business people well known around the world for their influence.

Last year Micheal J. Fox was awarded the distinction of being the Most Influential Canadian Expat in world by both members of the association and the general public.

For the remainder of July and all of August, The Canadian Expat Association will be accepting nominations for this year's list of influential Canadians.

In September the names receiving the most nominations will be compiled to a list to be voted on. On October 1st, we will will announce this years winner.  Remember that only individuals receiving the most nominations will be entered to the final voting list.

This is not an official club event, but if you just can't get enough of the Red and White on July 1, then you might like to pop along to this...

The ArtHouse Hotel is holding the Annual Canada Day event on July 1st 2010 (some of you might recall that was previously held at Victoria Cross at North Sydney)

Naturally, we hope to see all of our club members at the official club Canada Day celebrations on Saturday June 26 at the Drummoyne Sailing Club, but in case you need even more celebrating (and let's face it, who doesn't?) you might like to do the Arthouse event as well.

Another email we got from the consulate last week...  fancy helping a Canadian artist?

    Dear Diane and Chris,

    Hope all is well.

We have been contacted by a Canadian musician and artist who will be
visiting Sydney for 10 days from late April to early May and she is
seeking assistance with accommodation. Would it be possible for you to
post a message on your websites in case there may be someone who would
    be interested in helping out?

Vivienne is originally from Quebec, but presently residing in Paris. She
will be attending the International Society for Contemporary Music
conference to be held at the Conservatorium of Music

For more information, you can visit her website:

The club got this email last week...  can you help??

My name is Graham Homann and I am currently helping an Ice Hockey friend of mine from Kelowna, BC, who is bringing a team of midget age players out to Sydney in July this year. Don Evans, ex president and life member of Kelowna minor hockey, has been bringing a team of selected players ever two years to Australia since 1996 as a reward to players and there families who have contributed significantly to the sport in Kelowna. For the first time IHNSW has been unable to arrange the necessary billets to accommodate the players for the 5 days they are here. I am currently seeking people who can help in this situation and would like to know if you have a mail list you can forward this information to regarding possible billet families.

The team arrives on Sun 4th July and has 3-4 games while here before flying on to Queensland on fri 9th July.

Games will be in the evenings at Liverpool, and two games in Newcastle and Erina which they will travel up to by bus, billet families are more than welcome to come along.

I have personally been involved with this team with billeting, coaching against and generally assisting their visit here for the past 14 years and have made many friendships and enjoyed the reverse hospitality when travelling through Canada.  Many families who have billeted over the years have moved on in the sport but keep in touch with their billets and I have known of players who have also been to Kelowna and been looked after by Kelowna minor hockey for camps and for seasons.

This is a great experience to meet some great kids who have a shared interest in our sport and much knowledge to pass on.

The players are given tasks involving seeing our great city on most days and just need to be fed occasionally, dropped off at the train/bus station or rinks and a roof to sleep under at night.   Pick up and drop off at the airport is also needed.

I have never had any problems with any of the players and Don (Coach) has been coming with the team since the start, so he knows all the ins and outs.    This is really a great life experience, not just for the players but the billet families as well; my children (7 & 9) and wife are eagerly awaiting their visit and the chance to catch up with Don, Ken and the team, and see some good hockey as well while they’re here.

If you are interested in assisting or have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact me on 0421 648 796.
